Sullivans for the Saviour

JANUARY 2021

Dear Friends,

Greetings and may you have a Blessed New Year. This year did not begin as many of us expected or hoped for. When President Ramaphosa announced the move to Level 3 on 28th December and then again to an Advanced Level 3 on 11th January it changed our lives – again.

We normally hold our ZEMA annual business meeting and conference at Sunbury at the beginning of each year. This is a time when the ZEMA missionaries and other missionaries who are seconded or in partnership with us meet for fellowship, fun, catching up and listening to each other’s reports. Sometimes it is the ONLY time in the year when we see each other. This year was different – it was held on Zoom. The business meeting on one day and the Conference over three days. It was great to see each other on our monitors and screens but it was not the same without physically being together. We’re sure you understand this from your own experiences.

MINISTRY NEWS: This past month has mainly been spent at home or with our children in the Durban area. Andy has done a lot of administration work. He was responsible for taking the minutes and notes on the meetings and had to spend a few days typing these out for the Field Director. He also led a Memorial Service at Pinetown Baptist Church for a lady who died (not of covid). Please pray for this church as they seek to call a pastor this year. Andy is also preparing sermons for online preaching

FAMILY NEWS: We were blessed again to have Andrea’s boys with us for a few days so that she could catch up on work. The opening of schools in South Africa has been delayed by a few weeks due to the “second wave of covid”. Kirsten is settling down into her new home and is enjoying having a big garden where the children can go outside and play. Casi is working extra hours as one of her doctors has taken leave. Please pray for her safety as there have been a number of attempted burglaries in her complex.

PRAYER NEEDS: Please pray for the following

• for wisdom as we plan our ministry for this year, with the understanding that it is “if the Lord wills”.

• for Andy as he works with ZEMA colleague, Paul Seelhammer who will take over as ZEFA Administrator in 2022. Andy will continue as Assistant Administrator helping Paul as he settles down.

• for the use of #104 (the house next door) that God will provide opportunities for those in ministry to use it as a place of rest, restoration and refreshment.

• For our health and safety as we seek to be real and relevant to those around us.

A Scripture verse that has helped us at this time is Isaiah 40:31“but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (ESV) We often become impatient and intolerant when we have to wait for things to go “back to normal”. How do we cope? By learning to “wait / hope in the Lord”. He is the one who gives us the power and strength to “mount up with wings like eagles; to run and not be weary and to walk and not faint.”

Have a great New Year filled with Love, Joy and Peace.

Andy & Heather Sullivan
