Sullivans for the Saviour

NOVEMBER & DECEMBER 2021

Dear Friends,

This will be a final newsletter for the year so this one will cover both November and December.

PRAISE: We are back home in Hibberdene! We came home on Thursday 18th November (Andy’s birthday) Heather attended the KZN Women’s Seminar in Skogheim for the weekend while Andy marked 28 exam papers and assignments. Casi was with him, and they went to Idwala church in Paddock on Sunday where Andy preached before fetching Heather.
Being in Pietermaritzburg for nearly two months gave us wonderful opportunities for “deputation.” This is one of the advantages (and sometimes a disadvantage) of living in the country where you minister. We visited Scottsville on a number of occasions and Andy preached once. He also preached at Hayfields Baptist in Pietermaritzburg and at Fynnland Baptist in Durban. We visited with many friends who support us through prayer, friendship, and finances. Thank you to all who invited us to visit, and we apologize to those we were not able to see.
We also went to Sunbury for the ZEFA Executive meeting that replaced the annual ZEFA Conference which had to be cancelled again due to covid restrictions.
The weekend after we arrived home, Andy travelled with Greg Akers to the Sondela ZEBS graduation outside Mthatha where Greg was the main preacher. Gregory grew up in Mthatha as his parents, Richard and Geraldine were ZEMA missionaries there for about 25 years. He thoroughly enjoyed going down memory lane and visiting his old homes and schools and other places.

FAMILY NEWS: While we were at UBI, Andrea, Quintin and Casi drove to Pietermaritzburg for Andy and Casi’s birthday, and we went out for a meal as it was a “study day” for the students. Kirsten and family are planning to come to us over Christmas – please pray that this happens as we have not been together as a family for a long time!

CHRISTMAS DEVOTION: In John 7:40-43 we read that the crowds argued about who they believe Jesus was. Some said that he is the Prophet, fulfilling the prophecy of Deut.18:15 while others believed that he is the Christ – the Messiah promised in the Old Testament. However, others disagreed and said that the Messiah has to come from Bethlehem while Jesus was from Nazareth in Galilee. Little did they know that Jesus WAS born in Bethlehem. These verses remind us at this Christmas time Jesus is the Right Person born in the Right Place to the Right Parents at the Right Time. Jesus is the Right Person born in the Right Place – Bethlehem, the city of David as prophesied in Micah 5:2; Jesus is also the Right Person born of the Right Parents. Joseph was of the line of David, from the tribe of Judah which made them travel to Bethlehem for the birth of Jesus. Finally, Jesus is the Right Person born at the Right Time as we are told in Galatians 4:4 “in the fulness of time God sent his son”. May you all have a Blessed Christmas and a God-glorifying New Year.
Thank you for your faithful prayers and loving support.
